Chris Bezsylko, Head of School
Chris is a lifelong learner and an experienced school leader with twenty-three years of experience working in both public and independent schools. Most recently, Chris was the Founding Head of School at AltSchool Palo Alto. His passion for experiential education, social-emotional learning, and community engagement is driven by the belief that the building blocks of a true community of learners involves: a progressive approach to teaching, learning, and leading; the purposeful application of learning science; opportunities to exercise individual voice and choice; and, the integration of diverse ideas, cultures, and experiences.
After a decade as a public school teacher and an educational consultant, Chris earned a Master of Arts in Private School Leadership through the Klingenstein Center at Teachers College, Columbia University. Since that time, Chris has been directly involved in all aspects of school leadership as a teacher and administrator with a primary interest in authentic assessment, innovation, the future of schools, parent engagement, and community partnerships.
Emma Sameroynina, Elementary Learning Guide
Emma’s immense passion for teaching shows in everything she does. She has been developing hands-on, individualized lesson plans in a group setting since she began her career as an educator. She discovered the power of personalized learning during her tenure as a teacher’s aide at the Institute of Child Development before applying it to her own classroom as an educator at AltSchool. She believes in guiding children to be imaginative and critical thinkers. She provides an innovative learning environment that encourages creativity and curiosity in both children and adults, and she wants to continue working in a setting that she can experiment and explore in.
During her time as a teacher, her love for education has only grown. Emma is inspired by watching students learn and thrive through project-based learning, which she believes creates a unique world of immersive learning that stays with them far beyond the classroom. Emma holds a Bachelor’s of Science in applied behavior analysis from SUNY Binghamton University.
Lexie Lenae Nelson, STEAM Learning Guide & Outdoor Education Program Director
Lexie believes that the purpose of education is to facilitate the growth of confident, capable, and engaged citizens of the world. As an educator, she has pursued a personal passion through the world of environmental sciences, garden and agriculture education, and outdoor learning, using nature as her classroom. While completing a teacher-in-residence program on Bainbridge Island in Washington, Lexie led 4th- and 5th-graders through the woods to explore and learn from nature with hands-on experiences that rank among her favorite teaching moments.
Lexie holds a Master’s in education from the University of Washington. A graduate of the California Farm Academy, Lexie has worked in agriculture both as a farmer herself and as an educator. As the founding STEM educator at AltSchool Palo Alto, Lexie created curriculum, designed the middle school STEM program, and led several school initiatives focused on design-thinking, environmental sustainability, and social justice.
Sean Kathryn O'Connor, Elementary Learning Guide
Sean is simply thrilled to be joining the amazing team at Imagination School! She has an infectious passion for education, and is committed to fostering the whole child. To build an atmosphere of growth, Sean believes in getting to know each child, creatively connecting content and ideas to what he or she enjoys, and encouraging development in areas that may be challenging. She is dedicated to motivating, inspiring, and building on students’ strengths and interests to enhance their success.
Having grown up in a multigenerational family of professors, Sean began teaching at sixteen at her mother’s preschool in New Jersey. From there, she went on to study theatre and education at Holy Family University, and later at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. With over fifteen years of teaching experience from the classroom and private tutoring to the theatre, Sean Kathryn has taught students with various learning styles and challenges. She truly enjoys incorporating her background in theatre and the arts to help develop all students’ confidence, both emotionally and academically, regardless of learning style.
